Sisters before misters! This year we celebrate Galentines

Imagine cute pancakes with berries, pink wine or bubbles, cute fits and evening of chats and Gossip Girl- if this sounds like the perfect date for you, maybe this  year should ditch valentines day and try Galentines Day!

Galentines day is celebrated on 13th February every year, the day before Valentines. It’s a celebration dedicated to loving your friends. The usual plans include cute ‘girly’ dinners, cocktails or maybe even a day trip or activity like pottery painting, anything that suits your group of girlfriends.

If you are not in a relationship, you have a fun day to look forward to, while everyone does ‘couply things’ (haha) and if you are in one, then honesty, even better, a night out with the girls and the next day you get princess treatment and roses.

This day doesn’t exactly go back centuries like Valentines, it dates back to 2010… first celebrated in NBC’s American sitcom ‘Parks and Recreation’ and viewers loved it and  the tradition stuck. It is rare that fictional holidays stick however, ‘galentines’ was truly relatable and was something we all felt we needed. Since then, it has become a huge marketing and commercial opportunity, and is slowly becoming a big day for businesses.

It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate female love and friendship and join together, with, or without partners. Will you be celebrating Galentines this year? Watch our latest programme where we chat more about this new holiday.
