Letters to Juliet, the reason why we should still believe in handwritten notes, literature, romantic gestures and love.
There is an office in Verona, Italy, where the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet evolved, which is busy linking human love stories and questions to Juliet. Thousands of letters reach the office a day, some ask questions and require words of wisdom, “ How do I know he is definitely the one Juliet?”, others just want to share their love story, “ Our engagement day was a fairy-tale” while many just want to say hello. No matter what your letter contains, you will receive a heartfelt, hand-written answer inspired by what Juliet would say herself.
This romantic gesture began in the 1930s when Ettore Solimani, the guard of Juliet’s tomb started receiving love letters dedicated to Juliet and he started replying. He became the first Juliet secretary.
This became famous in 2010 after a romantic comedy film was made, called ‘Letters to Juliet’, starring Amanda Seyfried, which follows the love story of Sophie, who became a volunteer to answer Juliet’s letters but found a letter from 1957 which inspired her to delve deeper.
