Not an EU-citizen? Here is what you need to know for your next European holiday

If you are off on holiday this summer you may want to arrive with enough time to spare to the airport as you could be facing huge queues – but why?

Have you heard of the new European Union Entry/Exit system? It is an automated border system for non-european travelers to enter Europe. It collects fingerprints, photographs and entry and exit records to replace future passport stamping.

It has been delayed, as it was meant to be put into place in early 2026. It is being tested in many airports but has consequently caused long queues and confusion. People who own a TIE- the new Spanish residency card will not be affected as their entry and exit do not have to be recorded. People affected include UK citizens (post-Brexit) and non-EU citizens, anyone visiting short-term on holiday. These border regulations were put in place to improve the tracking of travelers, enforce the 90 day limit and once everyone’s biometric details are registered, avoid queues and delays in airports. This has caused controversy among many, as once again, we are being forced to hand in more of our information.

What do you think of this new system- Is it controlling, efficient or just unnecessary? We chat about this in our latest episode.
