Spain is most famous for its sun and beautiful beaches, but Spain’s beauty goes a lot beyond that, as there are hundreds of stunning overlooked villages that may surprise you.
If you watch our show you may already know a lot about the many typical white-washed quaint villages, so for this guide, Good Morning Spain is bringing you a more unusual, niche list of villages you will definitely not want to miss.
Setenil de las Bodegas

An unusual village built under huge rock cliffs. The windy streets wedged between the mountains make this place extremely recognizable and unique. Setenil is in the province of Malaga in Andalucia and is becoming more popular amongst tourists however not as much as places like Ronda.
Tazones

Located in Asturias, in the north of Spain, Tazones is a beautiful, tiny Atlantic fishing village. It is known for its colourful houses, cobbled streets and perfect for any history enthusiasts as it is where the Emperor Carlos V accidentally arrived for the first time in 1517 on his journey to occupy Spain’s throne.
Bulnes

A small hiking village in the Picos de Europa in Asturias which until 2001 was only accessible by hiking and had no road connections. Despite currently being more connected and accessible it remains a small village which people describe as magical and ‘stuck in time’.
Garachico

A town on Tenerife island in Gran Canaria which had to be rebuilt after a volcano eruption took it out in 1706. It is now one of the most beautiful towns in Spain and is known for its lava coastline and its many volcanic natural pools.
Castellfollit de la Roca

Located in Girona in Cataluña121q, this tiny village is home to around 1000 people and has one of Spain’s most dramatic landscapes. The entire village is built on a basalt volcanic cliff, offering outstanding views.
Calatañazor

Located in Soria in central Spain, this village reflects exactly what mediaeval Spain looked like. With its wooden balconies, rock houses and castle ruins, it feels like you have gone back in time.
Júzcar

The celebrity of this list- as Juzcar was famously painted blue for the Smurfs Movie. For the film they painted the entire village blue and when filming wrapped, residents voted to keep it that way! In the province of Málaga, you can now visit the actual Smurf Village.
Mojácar

And finally, a beautiful white washed village in Almería. Mojácar is well known for its white mountain village as well as its beautiful Almería coastline. It combines village life, lush beaches and proper Spanish fiesta life in the summer!
